Out of the box(es)

From July 13 to December 1, 2013

Presentation

The collections of the departmental Dobrée museum come out of storage and travel to the Château de Châteaubriant from July 13 to December 1, 2013. The Dobrée museum may well be closed for renovations, but its collections are alive and well and travel across the department.

Antique and medieval sculptures, Greek ceramics, Asian and Egyptian statuettes, ritual objects from Africa and Oceania, paintings from the 16th and 19th centuries, engravings by Dürer or Rembrandt, Ducal golden coins, weapons from the five continents… the vastness of the Dobrée museum collections is illustrated by this exhibition that presents an exceptional selection of over 130,000 objects.

150 emblematic and prestigious works of art that had remained a secret for 2 years due to the renovation works will be presented to the public in the Guards building of the Château de Châteaubriant.

Inside the life of an artifact!

In order to reach a larger audience for this first exhibition of the Dobrée collections at the château de Châteaubriant, we shot a teaser video that shows the journey of an artifact, from storage to the exhibition glass case.

There was also a pedagogical version of the video available during the exhibition detailing each step of the artifact’s “journey”.

A Tumblr page to discover new works on a regular basis

A contest was organized on twitter, allowing our @museedobree followers to discover some of the emblematic objects of the exhibition one by one. Click here to find the Tumblr page dedicated to the “Out of the box(es)” exhibition (in French)!
