Architecture and heritage in the 20th in Loire-Atlantique

From June 13 to October 31, 2008

Presentation

Exhibition presented in the Guards’ building of the château de Châteaubriant.

The 20th century is still ours. It is the century of our births, our memories, our ideologies and the century during which three quarters of our buildings were built. During that century there have been some major changes, through historical events, cultural movements or technical inventions that have influenced the evolution of our needs and desires.
The exhibition features 56 major or common buildings built in the 20th century in Loire-Atlantique. The goal of the exhibition is to help visitors better understand the birth of these buildings, the motivations behind the work of their creators and to appreciate their qualities in terms of function, innovation and aesthetics.
Some of these buildings are already recognized as part of our heritage. Others will probably get on that list as well; others still might be destroyed because they will not be found useful anymore, because they will no longer be admired.
