Born in San Salvador (Republic of El Salvador) in 1940, Mario Marti is an architect and urban planner but he is also a photographer and a visual artist. As such, he pays particular attention to perspectives, colors and light as well as contrasts between materials. This tendency particularly comes out in his work on landscapes.

Mario Marti arrived in Châteaubriant in 2001 and was immediately seduced by the presence, both impressive and discreet, of the château in the city.

He constantly looks for uncommon viewpoints; he looks for continuity and contradictions and relays in his work the dialogue he captures between a monument and its environment. The château is located in the heart of the city and Mario Marti’s photographs tell its everyday life and story. The photographs feature the château from afar, peaking between two houses or a nearby hill or from up close, in the reflection of a puddle! The unremarkable everyday side of the château is presented alongside remarkable photographs of the monuments. From one season to the next, atmospheres change and complement each other…

Mario Marti’s photographs are presented in different places around the château and show more than what the eye usually sees: the inside or outside, the opposite or complementary… His work invites visitors to change their view on things and look for their own unusual perspectives and viewpoints.
