Journeys to Victor Hugo’s century

April 9 to October 3, 2004

Presentation

A major figure of the 19th century whose parents met at Châteaubriant during the French Revolution, Victor Hugo visited Brittany – and more precisely the Loire Inférieur region – for the first time in 1834.

He started travelling – across France and Europe – early in life and never stopped. These experiences had a strong influence on his graphic, political and literary work.

With the exhibition “Journeys to Victor Hugo’s century”, the château de Châteaubriant offers an inside look into the work of a travelling man, a committed citizen and a writer at the forefront of the Romantic Movement.
