Dans l'encre des rêves #2

By following the black ink, visitors are transported into an immersive installation, a world of poetic dreams. The scenery is populated by colourful plants, swirling phylacteries and hybrid creatures that have escaped from the manuscripts. The figures appear and then fade away on floating veils, brushing up against griffins, dragons and winged lions. The flowing ink gradually floods the space and overflows to the outside. Black ink and coloured ink, real and unreal, creatures and plants: the dream makes everything dance. An installation by Lucie Lom.

Lucie Lom is a workshop composed of Marc-Antoine Mathieu, Philippe Leduc, Elisa Fache and Isabelle Rabillon.

Philippe Leduc and Marc-Antoine Mathieu met at the School of Fine Arts in Angers in 1979, and were joined by Elisa Fache in 2011. The Lucie Lom workshop expresses their experiences and sensibilities in graphic design and scenography, and makes use of their ideas to transform the urban space.

Since 1984, under the name Lucie Lom, they have been presenting poetic and theatrical exhibitions. The Centre Pompidou, UNESCO, the Cité des Sciences, the Musée de l'Air et de l'Espace du Bourget, the Musée de la Carte d'Issy-les-Moulineaux, the Musée de Bastia, and the Cité Internationale de la Bande Dessinée et de l'Image d'Angoulême have recently commissioned exhibitions on art, aesthetics, science and history from Lucie Lom.

They are also authors of urban street art, in cities including Manchester, Saintes, Tourcoing, Katowice in Poland, Nantes, Les Auto fossiles for the Accroche-Coeurs d'Angers, Les Rêveurs in Angers, La Forêt suspendue for Lille 2004, Les Invites in Villeurbanne in 2011 and more. The transformed places are perceived and experienced differently by each individual, bringing a bit of fantasy and poetry into the urban landscape. Mindful of the sensitivity of passers-by and important cultural references, they create art installations that everyone can appreciate.

"We've grown a translucent forest in a church, transformed the great hall of La Villette into a dune illuminated by three moons, a theatre into an abandoned train station... We've suspended a forest from the clouds, made old cars emerge from the asphalt, moored dinghies and trawlers to balconies in Angers, and peeled off the façade of a Renaissance hotel like wallpaper. These metamorphoses that transform the public space elicit curiosity and invite passers-by to reflect on the cultural references. It's like a daydream come to life."

About the project Dans l'Encre des Rêves:

When we first visited the château de Chateaubriant a year ago, we fell in love with its history and architecture, the personality of Françoise de Dinan and the collections of manuscripts containing curious images. That's why our installation for the guard room features angels and demons, medieval and biblical figures, plants with colours that time has not altered, and sumptuous manuscript pages decorated with bright lettering. We hope the public will love it. Visitors journey through the dreams of Françoise de Dinan, populated by all the images that she came across while reading. Along the trail of flowing ink, they wander through imaginary lands where they meet a silver ermine, dazzling birds, astonishing colourful creatures, and the figure of a giant surrounded by stars whom we find endearing somehow.
